Ram Lila
  • Ayodhya is popular for mandali Ram Lila.
  • Ram Lila, the enactment of the story of Lord Rama, have been started by great Saint Tulsi das.
  • Dialogue-based performance presented on a platform stage.
  • Ram Lila,  an enactment of a myth, is presented as a cycle-play with the story varying from 7 to 31 days.
  • High standard of performance is complemented by songs and kathak dances and eye-catching decor.
  • When: Late September or early October.
Ram Navmi Mela
  • To  celebrate the birthday of Lord Rama.
  • Temples all over the city are decorated for  the Mela.
  • When and where: April, Kanak Bhavan
Shravan Jhula Mela
  • Celebrates the playful spirit of the deities.
  • On the 3rd day of the 2nd half of Shravan, images of the deities ( Rama, Lakshmana and Sita) are placed in swings in the temples.
  • They are taken to Mani Parbat, where the idols are made to swing from the branches of the trees.
  • When: July - August
